“Never waste a good crisis” is the theme of a trade event being hosted by Lynn Boylan MEP in Dublin
The event, which takes place at the EPLO on Balfe Street, will feature a panel of experts discussing the EU’s trade policy, and the impact it has on ordinary people.
“The event is called “never waste a good crisis” because this is exactly what is being done by the EU, and by the government here, using the trump tariffs as a smokescreen to secure rotten trade deals.
“The EU is using this chaos to ram through the Mercosur deal, which will flood the market with South American beef, this isn’t just bad for the climate, but it’s bad for our farmers, and bad for the health of the consumers too.
“Here in Ireland, the government are doing the same thing to have the CETA deal fully ratified.
“By doing this however, they will allow private investor courts operate in Ireland, these aren’t courts for ordinary people. These are courts that big businesses can use to sue states for what they call, a loss of profit.
“So, even the vulture funds that are driving the housing crisis in Dublin, could sue the government here if they ever did anything that impacted on their profits, if the CETA deal was fully ratified.
“These deals are not done to benefit people like you, or the local businesses in your community.
“Big corporations, like vulture funds, who already rake in billions in profits, are the only ones who benefit from these deals.
“So if this is something you’re interested in, and you want to know how we can fight for fairer trade that prioritises people, not corporate profits, then come and join me at my event on November 6th, in the EPLO building on Balfe street in Dublin.
