Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan has expressed concern that Israel’s repeated violations of the ceasefire deal has led to the suspension of hostage releases by Hamas.
MEP Boylan, who is the chair of the EU’s delegation for relations with Palestine, said:
“It is extremely concerning to see that Israel’s constant violations of the ceasefire agreement look to have compromised the release of hostages held by Hamas.
“The failure of the EU, and the international community as a whole, to hold Israel to account for its constant breaches of international law, has now emboldened them to constantly breach the terms of the ceasefire agreement.
“Since the ceasefire was signed three weeks ago, there have been a number of violations by Israel, which have undermined any chance of stability in the region.
“The impunity of this Israeli government is a threat to building a lasting peace in the middle east.
“The EU, and the wider international community needs to stand up and actually hold Israel to account for its actions.
“Delivering a real and lasting peace, based on respect for human rights, international law, and a commitment to a two-state solution must be a priority for the EU and other world leaders.”
