Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan has today announced the names of the independent Chairperson and panel that will participate in the ‘One Island, One Environment’ discussion in Dublin next month.
The panel will be chaired by Investigative Reporter & Environmental Columnist Shauna Corr.
The panel will include Justin Moran – Director of external affairs with Wind Energy Ireland, Declan Owens – Environmental Lawyer & CEO of Ecojustice Ireland, Attracta Uí Bhroin – Manager & Law officer of Environmental Law Ireland and Seán Fearon – Ecological Economist & Post Doctoral Researcher.
The Commission on the Future of Ireland is jointly hosting the event in the Ballymun Rediscovery Centre on Friday 4th April from 11am – 1pm.
The theme of the conference is ‘The New Ireland is for Everyone – Have Your Say’ and the guest speaker will be Sinn Féin Environment spokesperson Pa Daly TD.
Lynn Boylan MEP said:
“The independent panel we have announced for the ‘One Island, One Environment’ conference on the Future of Ireland is exceptional and represents a broad spectrum of opinion.
“The environment and the threat posed by climate change is often overlooked in the United Ireland discussion. I want to broaden it out so climate activists and environmentalists can understand why a United Ireland offers hope and opportunities to go further and faster in protecting the environment.
“I am delighted to host this event and would encourage environmental activists, those working in the sector and anyone interested in the discussion around Climate Change to come along and have your say.
“The issue of constitutional change is now firmly fixed on the political agenda. The conversation on the merits of a United Ireland – of a new shared Ireland – is now widespread. We must plan for it. We must discuss how best to shape the new Ireland for this and future generations. This must include the management and protection of the environment.
“There has been an increase in support for Irish Unity over the last number of years. For us the priority is particularly for the Government in Dublin to establish a structured conversation, to analyze and examine all of the issues relating to constitutional change, so that people are fully informed of what that involves.”
