Fine Gael MEPs vote against stopping the sale of weapons to Israel

Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan has slammed Fine Gael MEPs for voting against stopping the EU selling weapons to Israel.

The Dublin MEP said:

“It is utterly appalling that the Fine Gael MEPs voted against stopping the EU from continuing to sell weapons to Israel.

“Day and night, we see the very real human cost of Israel’s ruthless genocide in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon. Yet, Fine Gael MEPs have voted for the EU the arm this genocide.

“This disgraceful decision is unfortunately, not an isolated incident.

“Individual Fine Gael MEPs have voted against condemning Israel’s genocide in Gaza, and their deliberate targeting of civilians.

“Voted against condemning the deliberate cutting off of aid and electricity to the people of Gaza, and voted against taking action over Israel’s clear violations of the EU-Israel association agreement.

“It seems that promises made during the last government and the recent general election campaign were a shallow and cynical attempt to score political points.

“People across Ireland have been clear in their solidarity with Palestine and demands for a real and lasting peace in the middle east, that is built on respect for international law and human rights.

“Sinn Féin will continue to call for the Irish Government and the EU to take real and meaningful action, such as imposing sanctions on Israel.

“This should begin with the passing of the Occupied Territories Bill in full.”
