EU sanctions against illegal settlers are ‘the bare minimum’

The EU is finally set to impose sanctions on illegal Israeli settlers after years of public and political pressure.

These sanctions however, are the bare minimum that the EU should be doing according to Lynn Boylan MEP.

The Sinn Féin MEP, while welcoming the move to impose these sanctions, insisted that these measures really are the bare minimum that the EU could, and should be doing.

Lynn said that there has been clear evidence to suspend the EU-Israel association agreement, on the grounds of human rights violations for some time, and that the EU showed utter cowardice to push back a decision on this.

“The EU needs to impose an immediate two-way arms embargo, to ban all trade with the illegally occupied territories and impose severe sanctions on companies or individuals who are supporting, or profiting from Israel’s actions.

“We also need to see the Irish government enact the Occupied Territories Bill in full.

“While today’s announcement doesn’t go far enough on its own, it could be used to build momentum in the push to have severe sanctions rightfully imposed on Israel for their heinous actions.”
