Sinn Féin MEPs, Lynn Boylan and Kathleen Funchion, will co-host a major European Parliament conference on ‘The Politics of National Democracy in the Current Global Context’.
The conference, which will take place in the European Parliament on Thursday February 5th, will be addressed by Uachtarán Shinn Féin, Mary Lou McDonald.
Speaking from Brussels, Kathleen Funchion MEP said:
“I am delighted to announce that Sinn Féin MEPs, along with our Catalan, Galician and Basque colleagues, will be hosting a major conference on the politics of national democracy in the current global context.
“This event comes at a time marked by geopolitical uncertainty, democratic backsliding and renewed discussions on sovereignty and the right to self-determination.
“We are delighted that we will be joined by the leader of Sinn Féin, Mary Lou McDonald, who will deliver an address and lay out our vision on how best to navigate the present global context, with a view to achieving the right to self determination, and ultimately Irish Reunification.
“We will also be joined by Oriol Junqueras of Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya and Arnaldo Otegi of EH Bildu.”
MEP Funchion concluded by outlining the importance of progressive movements across Europe working together in their efforts to achieve national self determination.
“As we see the big powers attempt to bully smaller countries, it’s important for progressive nationalist movements to work together in ensuring the will of our people is heard and acted upon.”
