Sinn Féin MEP for Dublin, Lynn Boylan, will hold an event in Brussels tomorrow, 14 May 2025, at 5:30pm (Irish time) in support of the Occupied Territories Bill, discussing the need to urgently pass the bill in full.
MEP Boylan said:
“The government must urgently pass the Occupied Territories Bill.
“This evening, I will host an event, with Independent Senators Alice-Mary Higgins and Frances Black, along with Conor O’Neill to discuss how the Occupied Territories Bill demonstrates how our laws can be used to protect human rights and uphold international law.
“Israel has freely violated international law for 19 months now, because no one has imposed any meaningful sanctions on this rogue state.
“Ireland has the opportunity to lead the way in standing up for international law and human rights.
“Unfortunately, Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael appear determined to pass a hallow and toothless version of the original bill. This is totally unacceptable.
“Enacting the Occupied Territories Bill would send a clear signal that we will not be complicit in genocide and that there must be consequences for Israel’s despicable actions.
“With the EU failing to take any meaningful actions against Israel, I encourage all MEPs to support initiatives similar to the Occupied Territories Bill in their own countries.
“We have a moral and legal obligation to uphold international law and to ensure that we stand against genocide and war criminals.
“It’s long past time that government show some courage and urgently pass The Occupied Territories Bill in full.”
