Brussels meeting hears Occupied Territories Bill must be passed

Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan has said that the government must urgently pass the Occupied Territories Bill amid the continued inaction of the EU against Israel.

Speaking after hosting a meeting of MEPs and activists in Brussels, the MEP Boylan said:

“Activists and MEPs came together in Brussels at this meeting to discuss the importance of the Occupied Territories Bill, and how we can push for this important bill to be passed in full.

“Passing the Occupied Territories Bill would not only send a strong message around holding Israel to account, but would set an example for other European states to follow.

“While the EU is content to stand idly by amid Israel’s ruthless genocide in Gaza, the different countries that make up the EU have the power to pass their own laws to ensure they are not complicit in the genocide.

“The Occupied Territories Bill gives Ireland the opportunity to lead the way in doing the right thing and give other countries the courage to follow our lead.

“This is an extremely important step as multiple countries following our lead would significantly increase pressure on the EU, pushing them to finally take action and impose some kind of sanctions on Israel amid their constant war crimes and crimes against humanity.

“The Irish Government must honour its election promise and act with courage and integrity by finally passing the Occupied Territories Bill in full.”
