Time to renew international support for UNRWA

Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan has called for all countries to renew their full support for UNRWA as Israel attempts to starve the people of Gaza.

The Dublin MEP said:

“Yesterday I hosted a meeting with UNRWA in Brussels for an update on the situation in Gaza and the challenges they face in delivering aid.

“For over 50 days, Israel has halted the majority of aid from entering Gaza, blocking lorries at the border, executing aid workers and attacking aid ships in international waters.

“They are weaponising starvation as the latest tool in their genocide.

“As the International community finally finds its voice and begins to call out Israel’s war crimes, they must renew their full support for UNRWA after a despicable smear campaign against it by the Israeli government.

“UNRWA has done vital, life-saving work in Palestine for over 75 years, supporting the Palestinian people and their right to return to their homeland.

“As Israel lashes out further against the international community, deliberately firing near EU diplomats yesterday, the time has come to impose sanctions on Israel, and get vital aid to Gaza now.

“Ireland should lead the way by passing the Occupied Territories Bill in full and by supporting Sinn Féin’s legislation to stop our Central Bank from enabling the sale of Israeli war bonds.”
